Eternal Bummer Records is darned pleased to bring you its sixth release, A Turn for the Better, the debut EP from Win Chelsea.

I was first acquainted with Evan Clapp and Charlie Weber, the doe-eyed darling duo that comprise Winchelsea, Ontario’s own Win Chelsea, at the EPIC Youth Music Festival in Blyth in 2009. Distinctly, I remember a wicked acoustic cover of Yellowcard’s “Ocean Avenue,” but also a exhilarating feeling of a new wave of scene stalwarts moving in. Over the past few years, Evan and Charlie have proved to be just that, dedicated movers and shakers in our little arts community that through their confidence in performance and promotion have helped to usher in a new era of Huron County scenedom. I’ve been consistently impressed by their successes, including their annual holiday showcases, which hopefully aren’t in jeopardy due to some unruly drunk dudes drinking in the Exeter Arena (sorry).

Now, we get A Turn for the Better, their first standalone release. Though primarily an acoustic act, this EP features three fleshed-out, full-band tracks performed entirely by the Win Chelsea boys (minus an appearance by Deny the Threat alum Max Santandrea), alongside one lone bare-bones single, “Spark.” Produced by Micah Brenner, “Spark” has Warped Tour Acoustic Stage singalong written all over it, dripping and writhing with classic pop-punk small-town spite. With Alex Krotz at the board for the rest of the record, you’re transported to Total Request Live circa 2005, excellent millennial emo bolstered by the crafted melodic senses of Evan and Charlie, who trade vocal duties with a natural aplomb.
